BRINGING THE HISTORICAL HEAT. The Chippewa Valley Museum is hosting exciting new summer exhibits and events this season.

With the summer months quickly approaching, the Chippewa Valley Museum (1204 E. Half Moon Drive in Eau Claire’s Carson Park) is rolling out exciting new events and programs this year, as well as opening up its newly renovated Tall Tales Gallery.

Have you ever wondered why Babe the Blue Ox is blue? You can find out in the renovated Tall Tales Exhibit. Kids and adults can enjoy playing games and climbing through fun things like Paul Bunyan’s boot and skillet. The exhibit will also showcase what kinds of beasties lie in the Northwoods. Museum members and exhibit contributors will get to see a preview of the renovations on Wednesday, May 8.

New this summer, an exhibit titled “On the Water” will be featured at the museum from June 18-Dec. 31. “On the Water” will explore how locals enjoyed the Wisconsin summer weather in the 1940s-1970s.

The museum is also celebrating its 50th birthday this summer, inviting the community to share their favorite Wisconsin summer memory at a special campfire on Aug. 21. Folks will enjoy singing, storytelling, and some good company while wishing a favorite local establishment a happy 50th!

With all the newness this summer, the Chippewa Valley Museum will also be bringing back community favorites, including the Music on the Lawn series (July), The U.S. Open Chainsaw Sculpture Championship (Aug. 2-4), and a vintage baseball game (June 5). Plus, thanks to a new freezer, the Ice Cream Parlor will open May 25.

Even though the Chippewa Valley Museum is open to the public year-round, the entire campus – including the Wisconsin Logging Museum, Sunnyview Schoolhouse, Anderson Log House, and the Ice Cream Parlor – will be open as of May 28. Admission either the Chippewa Valley Museum or the Wisconsin Logging Museum is $12 for adults, $10 for senior, and $5 for college students and children over 5 years old. Admission to the entire campus is $18 for adults and $7 for college students and children over 5.
