Curvue Tree Farm to Host Summer Sustainability Workshops for Kids
Curvue Kids Academy will highlight frogs, pollinators, and birds during summer program
Curvue Tree Farm + Gardens is a favorite for families and seasonal visitors. The 12 acres on the outskirts of Eau Claire are home to a Christmas Tree Farm, garden center, and gift shop. Though it’s known for an array of creative family-friendly events, the family-owned biz is launching first-time programming this summer: the Curvue Kids Academy!
Free for elementary-aged kiddos and their guardians to participate in, Curvue Kids Academy will focus on three sustainability-focused events, one for each month over the summer: June will focus on frogs; July will focus on pollinators, primarily bees and butterflies; and August will focus on birds.
Kids are invited to get outside across acres of land, where they’ll participate in hands-on projects which they’ll be able to see blossom in the years to come.
“We’ll teach kids about different sustainability practices and how you can help the whole ecosystem in your own yard,” explained Curvue co-owner Brittney Malone. “It’s a really great way to find another activity for your kids, but the fun part about it is, we’re doing projects right here on our property (that) people can come back and see, and I love that.”
“It’s another opportunity to connect parents with their kids in a hands-on activity where you're outdoors and learning about nature. That's a win in my book!”

CURVUE TREE FARM CO-OWNER
Brittney, who dreamt up the Curvue Kids Academy programming alongside another Curvue employee, said the opportunity to see their outdoor efforts flourish over the coming years is part of what is so exciting about the series. Participating kids will also take something home with them after each event.
The June program focusing on frogs – offered on two dates, June 12 and 26, 9-10am – will invite kids to create frog habitats while learning about what’s important to a frog’s environment and how it plays into the ecosystem.
July’s program – offered July 10 and 24, 9-10am – will focus on pollinators and will include creating bee hotels and houses, as well as shaking out wildflower seeds over the property to teach about pollinator plants and have them plant their own butterfly weed.
August’s program – offered Aug. 14 and 28, 9-10am – will focus on birds and will take participants on a nature walk through some of the property, having kids use binoculars to scope out birds while learning about different types of birds and how they, too, act as pollinators.
“It’s another opportunity to connect parents with their kids in a hands-on activity where you’re outdoors and learning about nature,” Brittney said. “That’s a win in my book!”
While donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of materials for the program, each event will be free for participants. As a former stay-at-home mom to little kids, Brittney said fun events like this are far more accessible without the barrier of cost.
Registration will be done through Google Forms so the Curvue team will know how many participants to prepare for, and each child will get a Curvue Kids Academy T-shirt as well. You will be able to indicate which event(s) you are interested in, whether it is just one or all of them.
