“Arlo on the Way to the Cemetery” (2022) • Digital Illustration • From the artist: “As an illustrator, a prevalent goal of my work is to create a space where viewers feel like they can sit down and rest awhile- one way to do that is by crafting relatable, emotional, real characters. A couple years ago, it was a soppy spring afternoon after a long winter, and I had been out for a walk, enjoying the way that the air was lighter and sun was brighter. Arlo is based on a real person I encountered that day who was on his way to the cemetery to play a song for his grandpa- an incredibly tender thing to do (yes, he was really on a skateboard, but in real life he also had a harmonica).”
