According to Golf Digest, Wisconsin is the best state for public golf. In an article posted on Feb. 17, Golf Digest released its public golf course rankings, determined by using recent data it collected on each state’s golf courses and culture.
“Other states, like Wisconsin – named here as the best state for public golf – prioritize excellent public-access courses but lack as many elite private clubs of many other states,” the article states. Ten courses in Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” ranking are in Wisconsin, earning the Badger State its No. 1 spot for public golf.
Those courses include Stevens Point’s Sentryworld Golf Club, Sheboygan’s Whistling Straits: Straits Course, Nekoosa’s Sand Valley Golf Resort: Sand Valley, and others.
In the Valley, hundreds of folks voted for Best Golf Course in this year’s Best of the Chippewa Valley Reader Poll, crowning the top area courses for 2024:
1. Hickory Hills Golf Course
2. Wild Ridge Golf & Event Center
3. Princeton Valley Golf Course
