Local Moms Nurture Plant Book to Print
two years worth of effort by a group of friends culminate in book release
Look around your home or your office: How many plants do you have lounging about, and what type of personality do they have? Most people agree that greenery and plants can help transform a house into a home.
Local mom Heidi Von Ruden loves the plants in her home and was inspired to share the unique traits of her plants with the community. Together with collaborator Karsyn Morse and illustrator Juliann Ford, also Chippewa Valley locals, these three moms worked together over the last two years to bring the beautiful Goodnight Plants picture book to life.
Born out of a texting group chat, the friends' goal was to publish a sweet book about plants that all ages could enjoy. Heidi’s passion for plants accelerated during the height of COVID-19, and she enjoys nurturing them, problem-solving when they show signs of distress, and sharing extra plants with others. Although she loves each plant featured in her book, she has a soft spot for the fiddle leaf fig.
Goodnight Plants is a hardcover book perfect for children as well as adult plant lovers. With each turn of the page, you are introduced to a different type of plant, most of which can be found in Von Ruden’s own home.
“It’s a hardcover children’s book, but is really perfect for ‘plant moms’ who can put this on display next to their plant babies, or on the coffee table,” Morse noted.
This beautiful book can be found at The Local Store (205 N. Dewey St., Eau Claire), Down to Earth Garden Center (6025 Arndt Lane, Eau Claire), and Hello Adorn (312 S. Barstow St., Eau Claire) for $15.
