SOUP-PLY & DEMAND: Old Bloomer Brewhouse Dishes Up Soup Flights
Bloomer biz answers locals’ ask for soup flights
Coffee flights, Bloody Mary flights, and even mushroom flights. You name it and someone, somewhere, has probably put a food or drink onto a flight. As the temperatures have tapered and the sun has set earlier, folks have been on the hunt for something more savory and cozy slapped onto a flight: soups.
The tasty desire has taken to the internet (of course), and even locally through the 20,000-plus-member Facebook group, Eau Claire Foodies: “Soup flights?! Does anywhere around here do this?”, “Attention area restaurants! SOUP FLIGHTS! That is all,” “I need soup flights in my life. Desperately.”
Well, foodie Markayla Longseth took the soup demand into her own hands after seeing the social media pleas, bringing the idea to her workplace, Old Bloomer Brewhouse & The Buckingham (1526 Martin Road, Bloomer). Bar manager – and now soup maker – Longseth is bringing homemade soups and freshly baked bread into the business’s mix.
“I love cooking (and) baking so I just kind of decided to take on the soup flight project myself,” Longseth said.
Offered throughout the wintry months on Sundays noon-7pm and Mondays 3-8pm, three-soup flights will be dished out with a fresh baked roll, made with love by Longseth. The soup flights launched on Dec. 10 with white chicken chili, hamburger vegetable, and Zuppa Toscana.
Soup flights will range from $12-$15 for a combined 18 ounces of soup and served with a homemade roll. Longseth said she is currently working on creating soup flight menus to release about one month in advance so people can see what varieties will be coming and plan when to swing by.
