When life gives you lemons, you must make crochet plushies. At least that is the philosophy lived by creator Alina Mae, who started LameMaker right here in Eau Claire in 2018. Specializing in everything from beanies to baby items to home decor, Alina uses intricate detail and vibrant yarns to create amazing trinkets.

Alina started crocheting when she had to have her spine fused to her skull about eight years ago, which greatly affected her range of motion. After a large bout of boredom, she decided to start crocheting and fell completely in love with all of the things she could do from her couch. Her tagline became “Creating while Couch-Bound.”

Her holiday specialty items are her Crochet Holiday Ornaments, which are Scandinavian-style circular ornaments with images of snowflakes, trees, and stars – a perfect addition to any Christmas tree. New this year, Alina is also selling Santa Gnome ornaments, small Christmas trees, garlands, and even snowman plushies.

Alina has also dabbled into the world of writing, releasing her first children’s book, Where Do Our Words Go?, which is accompanied by an adorable cloud plushie. Alina said the inspiration for the book came from her niece who had discovered words she didn’t realize weren’t the nicest. Alina hopes to create more children’s books – with matching stuffies – in the future.

It’s easy to get your hands on one or more of Alina’s creations, which are found in five stores around Wisconsin as well as online. In the near future, Alina is hoping to start selling her own crochet designs so others can experience the same joy she does while crocheting.
