Built in 1885 and owned by Alexander McLaren, a lumberman and key player in early Chippewa Falls development, the McLaren House is an impressive marvel. Featuring vintage character, one-of-a-kind woodwork, and modern amenities, the home’s latest owners, Kristina and Kevin Custer, are now offering a slice of the home’s elegance to the public.

So, pack your bags, grab a few friends, and head on over to the Valley’s newest bed and breakfast!

The McLaren House Bed & Breakfast (522 Superior St., Chippewa Falls) opened for business this October, but for the Custers, it has been in the works for more than 25 years. “There was a lot of prayer and thought that went into changing careers and uprooting my family to pursue this dream,” Kristina said. Aspiring towards bringing a unique experience to Chippewa Falls and looking to cater to Kristina’s love for hospitality, the Custers are pinning their hopes on the McLaren House’s effortless charm and inviting location.

“THIS COMMUNITY HAS BEEN SO SUPPORTIVE AND ENCOURAGING TO ME AND MY FAMILY, so WE LOOK FORWARD TO GIVING BACK AND POURING WHAT WE CAN BACK INTO IT.”

With three stunning bedrooms whose names carry local and historical significance, the home also features three parlors, two fireplaces, a large dining room, two co-living spaces, private bathrooms, a 24-hour coffee lounge, and more. “We like to think of ourselves as a personalized, historical experience for our guests,” Kristina said. “There are many places to stay in Chippewa Falls, so we know that we have some competition, but I think we are unique because of our location, who we are as a family, and how special we make people feel,” she emphasized.

The luxurious home is ready to host six guests at a time (two per bedroom). Imagine relaxing within the brightly lit walls, surrounded by Victorian-styled decor, while holding a soothing beverage catered to you. The experience would come only second to Kristina’s homemade breakfast that has been tried and tested for perfection. Fresh scones, stuffed French toast, seasonal pancakes, specialty egg dishes, and more await you at sunrise. Folks with eating restrictions are welcomed, as all items are made from scratch.

The McLaren House Bed and Breakfasts asks for no children under age 12, and no pets are allowed to honor and maintain the home’s quality. Certain case-by-case exceptions can be arranged.

“Every time I make food, or make a bed, I feel proud of what we’ve accomplished and that I’ve been able to work hard for my own business,” she said. “This community has been so supportive and encouraging to me and my family, so we look forward to giving back and pouring what we can back into it.”
