STOKED ON SKATEBOARDING: E.C. Skaters Association Launches Community Lessons
new Boyd Park Skate Park hosts popular lessons
If you happen to pass by Boyd Park’s new skate park in the coming weeks, you may catch a glimpse of the Eau Claire Skaters Association’s (ECSA) newest endeavor: community lessons! In fact, these lessons have become so popular that skate park advocate and founder of ECSA, Gabe Brummett, won’t be surprised if they run out of spots per lesson.
Brummett, along with four to five other dedicated regular instructors, lead the lessons. “The turnout has been great,” Brummett said. “We are going to continue these lessons until the weather doesn’t let us anymore.”
Boyd Skate Park is a fairly recent addition to Boyd Park after decade-long efforts, and the local skateboarding community has wasted no time putting it to good use. When it becomes too cold to skate, ECSA will be busy planning future lessons and events. ECSA is in the process of filing to become a nonprofit organization to further its community outreach.
Participants of all ages are invited to receive skateboarding guidance at the lessons for $10 an hour. The lessons are currently offering beginner and intermediate instruction, with the next slated for Oct. 15, and every two weeks after that. Brummett is quick to assure that these lessons are not only for those experienced in riding skateboards.
“Anyone can ride a skateboard – it doesn’t matter what tricks you can do … as long as you’re rolling and having fun – that’s what matters,” Brummett said.
