“A Gift for Grandma” (2022) • India Ink • From the artist: “This piece is one in a three part series made for Halloween. It depicts an elderly woman hunched over her embroidery work with only the light of the candles to help her see. Behind her is a looming figure with a menacing jack-o-lantern for a head, ready to strike the woman with a giant cleaver.
The piece is done with a nib pen for the cross hatching that makes up the shadows and ink wash was used to paint the tones of the fabric and background of the image.”
