Hiker enthusiasts across the Chippewa Valley must check out a brand new hiking trail in Irvine Park, Chippewa Falls. A 0.13 mile length trail with elevation change throughout the terrain and most of it covered by a canopy of trees, Bluff Rapids Trail is the place for a beautiful and relaxing trek on a Saturday morning.

“(The purpose was) to provide an added experience for new and avid hikers/walkers,” said Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, John Jimenez. “This part of the park is a real hidden gem.”

Jimenez said the trail can be accessed from either the Erickson Park side of the bridge or the Bear Den bridge. The path follows mostly parallel along a wonderful landmark of Irvine Park, Duncan Creek. The elevation changes of the trail allow hikers to view the beauty of the creek at different angles with opportunities to delve deeper into off-trail sights or closer to the creek.

The topographical terrain of Bluff Rapids Trail is newly constructed and somewhat uneven, having just been completed the week of June 19, so remain alert for anyone’s first time taking the journey. The trail was instigated by the generosity of a donor who shared thousands of dollars to fund its creation, the process beginning back in 2022. Now it is open to all hikers, whether they be human or furry friend!

“The feedback has been outstanding,” Jimenez said. “People are loving the trail for its views and change from the norm.” Come check out a different pace of hiking at Bluff Rapids Trail before summer’s end!
