After the 2017 release of Color Eau Claire, a coloring book for adults with images drawn and imagined by artist Patricia A. Hawkenson, Hawkenson decided to do it all over again – this time, with the greater Valley and the Valley’s kiddos in mind.

“I wanted to create a sophisticated coloring book for youth that showcases local children experiencing everyday fun in the Chippewa Valley,” she said.

First, with permission from parents, Hawkenson takes photos of kids in local settings, including splashing in the Eau Claire River, playing at Carson Park, or fishing down at Fall Creek. With five to 10 photos for reference, her professional color pencil experience helps to imagine a simple yet engaging line art for the coloring book.

“There are so many community organizations and local landmarks that help create positive experiences for children,” Hawkenson said. “I hope this book helps local families gather ideas for how they can explore the area for themselves and become a wonderful souvenir for travelers.”

With 18 pages left to complete before the book is published, families who already have their children featured are welcome to stop by for an early look at my Expressive Domain studio inside The 1106 (formerly known as Artisan Forge Studios). For families who would like to be featured, stop in for a chat!

Slated to release as soon as late October, the coloring book should be on the shelves just in time for the holiday season.
