Kay Geraghty: In the last three years Kay has been learning a new art form sketching and illustrating ”jolly” urban scenes on her iPad. She has illustrated many of the businesses in her small town of Mondovi and shares them on the Our Town Mondovi Facebook page. The remembrances and the discussions of these businesses has been a fun process. She has started to illustrate neighboring towns. Kay also has been a professional photographer for many years.
“Colors of my Soul” (2018) 18” x 24” Encaustic on Heated Palette by Kay Geraghty • From the artist:
Kay Geraghty’s “Colors of my Soul” is a 18-24 encaustic portrait that she first started in 2018 and has reworked in the last few years. Encaustic is a beeswax-based paint that is kept molten on a heated palette. You can add or scrape away wax at any time. It is applied to a hard surface and reheated to fuse the paint into a uniform enamel-like finish. She started painting with beeswax about 15 years ago. Sometimes she paints portraits, sometimes she paints in abstract, sometimes she paints horses, flowers, barns and many other subjects.
