Uganda’s Dance of Hope Comes to the Heyde Center
enjoy the exciting cultural experience brought by the group’s only Wisconsin stop of their 2023 tour
On April 14, the Heyde Center for the Arts will be hosting Uganda’s Dance of Hope, Africa’s leading youth-based arts education program, for the whole community to enjoy.
The event itself will begin at 7:30pm with traditional East African percussion, dancing, and storytelling. A free opening reception will also be held at 5:30pm for people to admire traditional East African clothing and try a treat called “mandazi” before the performance. Eau Claire City Councilman Larry Mboga and his family will be hosting the welcome reception with the Heyde Center. Tickets are $15 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $5 for youth.
“This program explores the primal transforming power of music, dance, and storytelling by empowering, inspiring, and connecting young people and communities globally while bringing awareness and raising support to provide quality education for children living in developing countries and improving the way of life for their families,” a press release from the Heyde Center said.
The dance group will also be sharing stories and answering questions after performing, hoping that members of the community will use this opportunity to learn more about East African culture.
More information and tickets can be purchased at cvca.net. The Heyde Center is located at 3 S. High St., Chippewa Falls.
