“Duality” by Ashley Wittling

Ashley Wittling is a watercolor and mixed media artist from Wisconsin. She is inspired by old master works, fairy tales, and mythology. Her work focuses on dreamscape figures and fanciful creature design inspired by the lush flora and fauna that surrounds her. Using subtle glazing techniques, she creates luminous and whimsical imagery that transport the viewer to the quiet intimate moments that often go unseen. Today, Ashley Wittling resides in west central Wisconsin with her teenage son Noah and a plethora of plants and animals that continue to inspire her work.

“Duality” (2023) • Watercolor, gouache & gold leaf   From the artist: “Represented by the twins, Gemini are sometimes thought to be two people in one body. However, our multifaceted, diverse personalities allow us to navigate any type of situation. As an air sign our strength is communication, and like a sponge we soak up information. We are also known to be emotionally intelligent and can easily read a room. Our interests are vast and we flutter from one thing to the next, to some we are hard to keep up with. We hold strong opinions, but are also witty, sometimes with a dry sense of humor. Geminis are chameleons who are curious about everything and are highly adaptive to our surroundings.”
