Ghoti” by Chanel Harwick

Chanel Harwick’s (Nonfat MELK) hopes to be abducted by aliens to get out of filing their taxes for this year.

“Ghoti” (2022) • Digital Illustration •  From the artist: “The name Ghoti, pronounced fish, is a reference to an old linguistic joke illustrating English spelling and pronunciation irregularities. This piece is a concept drawing for a graphic novel that engages with environmentalism, class, and community themes, where the main characters confront a series of Western systemic and cultural paradoxes. In addition to mural painting, and children's book illustration, I look forward to further exploring science fiction and futurist aesthetics and welcome commissions of any scale.”

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
