The pen is truly mightier than the sword at this all-inclusive one-day camp, hosted by Chippewa Valley Writers’ Guild (CVWG) founder and director, B.J. Hollars.

The CVWG has explored an array of retreat models over the past 6 years but has never tried to organize their schedule into one day like this.

“It’s like a pressure cooker situation in a supportive environment,” explains Hollars. “Yes, we’re trying to get a lot of work done, but we’re doing it at our own pace.”

Located at the Forage event venue in downtown Eau Claire, the event will help writers get their creative juices flowing and receive positive feedback from other attendees. The event will take place Jan. 14 from 9 am to 9 pm and costs $65 per person, which includes two cooked meals, SHIFT Cyclery and Coffee Bar coffee, and the cost of the rental space being used. The retreat will have a limited number of openings, with the first 20 to apply getting accepted. The event is still in its planning phase, so applications will open on November 1.

Hollars is an associate professor of English and director of writing internships at UW-Eau Claire. The CVWG is an organization founded to help support regional authors through community activities and events.
