‘Mothra’ by Ellen Nelson

Ellen Nelson realized her passion for fiber, fabric and thread in grade school! After a career in the corporate world, and raising a family, she now continues to explore all fiber art.

“Mothra” (2018) 20” x 22” Fabric Collage by Ellen Nelson  From the artist: “ ‘Mothra’ was created from a workshop led by fiber artist Susan Carlson. It is an art quilt wherein one ‘paints’ with fabric. The chosen fabrics are to simulate the desired picture and effect. It is raw edge fusing with no pattern. Translucent fabrics are often placed over specific areas for an enhanced effect. Three layers of fabric make a ‘sandwich’ that is then free motion quilted to stabilize the areas as well as to bring out further details. In this instance, the random free motion quilting was to create the appearance of knots in the tree bark. Other areas of interest include beading, embroidery, and painting and embellishing on fabric.”
