Caroline Akervik grew up on a farm in Maryland where horses were a huge part of her life. Her young adult series, The Dream Horse Series, follows different fictional characters and their close relationships with different horses – all of which are inspired by horses Akervik knew growing up.

The Eau Claire writer’s most recent release, My Golden Horse, follows Ellen Sanz, who finds herself struggling to reconcile her relationship with horses after her mother was in a tragic show jumping accident. Ellen meets a horse named Lemon Meringue who then changes everything.

This story resonates deeply with Akervik because it was a chance for her to go back to her own horse and farm roots to tell this tale.

“I think it’s a story of transcending very difficult circumstances and I think a lot of us have dealt with that recently,” Akervik said. “And it’s about how magical a relationship between a horse and a human can really be.”

The first book in her series is called A Horse Named Viking, and she is currently working on the next book, which she hopes will be released within the next year.

To purchase My Golden Horse, you can find it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple Books, and Books on Google Play.
