Brown County, 1909

Trouble in the kitchen
With the skillet
Paul dug the outhouse
Too shallow this time
Got a full coop of
Chickens and children
Sure could use a whiskey
But I’m pregnant again

My God!

You didn’t even leave a note
To say good-bye
It took me a few weeks
To track you down
And I don’t know if
You’ll get this
But could you please
Pick up a telephone?
We’ve got to iron out
Some facts here:
I’m keeping the bed
And the claw-foot tub

Hummingbird

Honey, tell me
Are you looking for real change?
Are you looking for an angel?
A blackbird
Perhaps a light to turn on later
To come around back
After midnight
Love can be understanding
Even if it belly flops
I'll leave the door unlocked
