This new beauty salon in Eau Claire is anything but cut and dry. Wildflower Beauty officially opened in October, but they are holding a grand opening on April 21.

Sammie Treankler, owner of Wildflower Beauty, 2738 Mall Drive, wanted to create a safe and inviting environment for stylists, which is why half of her staff are employees and the other half are chair renters. When you rent a chair instead of becoming an employee, you get to make your own schedule, build relationships with your own clients, choose and buy all of the products you use, and keep all the money made from sales.

“I treat my employees sort of like renters so that they sort of start to get a feel for it,” Treankler said. “A lot of my employees don’t come in unless they have appointments on the books, which gives them that push to get their own clients.”

Each stylist has their own specialties and popular services, so you have a wide range of options for whatever you are looking for. You can meet all of the stylists and get a feel for the environment at their Grand Opening event on Thursday, April 21. They will have snacks, prizes, and tinsel and feather hair installations.

In June, Wildflower Beauty will expand down their hallway and be able to offer eight suites for stylists and their clients. This will also allow for other beauty services to be available, such as facials, massages, and more.

“It’ll open us up more to the whole beauty aspect and not just hair,” Treankler said.

Treankler has been a hairstylist for more than 20 years and rented several chairs in other places before deciding that she wanted to own her own salon.

“I wanted to create an environment for hairstylists where they could stay and grow and feel safe,” Treankler said. “My ultimate goal is for my employees to stay here and become renters and not have my salon being a revolving door of people coming in and out.”
