The Polar Plunge is back and colder than ever.

This year celebrates the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics of Wisconsin, which provides year-round sports opportunities to more than 10,000 athletes of any age and skill level across the state. Proceeds from the event will go to directly support the organization, continuing a long, productive, and chilling partnership. Pre-registration is encouraged and on-site day-of-registration is also available.

In 2022, there are four ways to jump in and freeze for a reason:

  • Take the Plunge: Typically most popular, individuals and their teams can return in person to jump into icy waters across five Saturdays at eight statewide locations. This year’s Chippewa Valley event will be on Saturday, March 5, at Half Moon Beach in Eau Claire.
  • Cozy Up & Chill at Home: For those who opt out of an in-person event, they can create their own do it yourself virtual plunge whenever and however they like – creativity encouraged.
  • Flex My Cool School: Students can form teams, hold competitions, and have fun in the spirt of inclusion by taking the plunge or hanging out virtually via the Cool Schools option.
  • Support a Plunger: This option allows fans to support other Polar Plunge participants while making a difference in the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Funds raised from this unique winter tradition help Special Olympics of Wisconsin athletes train and compete at the state, national, and international level as well as support year-round health and wellness programs. In June 2022, a delegation of 96 athletes, unified partners, coaches, and staff will represent Team Wisconsin at the Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Florida.
