After developing a deep love for music throughout her childhood, Bri Murphy decided to pack up her things and move from Eau Claire to Nashville to pursue her dream of making a career out of music.

Fast forward a decade, and Murphy's new single “The Pines” drops on Feb. 18, along with her first-ever fully produced music video. “The Pines” was heavily inspired by nature and follows her journey with grief to find healing. It traverses the acceptance of cards you get dealt in life – something Murphy continues to do in her career.

“It’s easy to get swept up in the more commercial side of things or chasing fame and fortune,” Murphy said. “But all of that is so temporary, and I think really holding the idea of always creating close to you and always becoming better at what you do is one of the best things anybody can do in the creative arts.”

The single was produced by Murphy’s fiancé, Peter Ferguson, mixed by Rachael Moore, and mastered by Piper Payne and features bandmates Christian Sancho and Megan Carchman. The new music video was directed by Jeremy Burchard.

“I had come to Nashville with the goal of being a songwriter, and I got swept up in being a side musician instead,” Murphy said. “I’m really proud of what I have done as a side musician, but it wasn’t what I moved here to do. I got caught up in chasing other people’s dreams and forgot mine.”

Murphy, who was born and raised in Eau Claire, has music in her blood, as her mother was a former professor in the music department at UW-Eau Claire and her father a professional musician. She was able to express herself in the jazz and concert bands at Memorial High School.

“I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Eau Claire public school system and the music department in particular,” Murphy said. “They largely shaped who I am today as a musician and as a creator. I’m so grateful to have grown up in a city that values the arts. I’m really proud to be from Eau Claire and I’m really grateful to have grown up there.”
