“Musk Ox” (Digital) 27”x21” (2021) by Alyssa Alcorta • From the artist: “I love animals. We can find them everywhere we look and they vary in traits as much as, if not more than, humans. For my work I use species that exist today as a starting point and then I alter them by adding fantastical elements and vibrant colors. Most animals typically have muted colors to blend into their surroundings, but I want these species to stand out in a way that they can’t do for themselves. So I draw my inspiration from the vibrant colors of graffiti, skateboard art, and other punk aesthetics that demand your attention with attitude. Their individuality is already there, I’m just using my art to draw it out for others to see.”
