HOW'S THE AIR UP THERE? The 136th annual Silver Mine Ski Invitational will be held on Jan 14-15.

The Chippewa Valley’s longest-running sporting event will soar into its 136th year this weekend at Silver Mile Hill just outside Eau Claire.

The Flying Eagles Ski Club will host the annual Silver Mine Ski Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan 14-15, with jumpers flying down the slope on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. Strap on your boots and find your warmest gloves to watch this iconic local event, which traditionally draws top ski jumpers from around the region, nation, and even the world to compete on the 90-meter hill.

Gates will open at 4:30pm Friday with the opening ceremonies at 6:40pm and the tournament beginning at 7pm. On Saturday, gates will open at 9am and Silver Mine’s cross country ski trails will be open for public use with paid event admission. Saturday’s opening ceremonies will start at 1:40pm, competition will follow at 2pm, and the Xcel Energy Long-Standing Jump will begin at 4:30pm.

Buy your tickets in advance for $15 or on the day of the event for $25. Veterans, active military members, and children under 12 have free admission. Tickets can be purchased at local Kwik Trip locations, at Prestige Auto, or online at eventbrite.com. More information and updates will be announced on their Facebook page.
