When Erin O’Brien sought artists who – like her – had a wake-up call when it came to their health and aimed to heal by creating art, she found Tanya Meyer, Susan Carew Johnson, and C. V. Peterson.

These artists will exhibit their work in the “Navigating Our Lives, Exploring Creative Pathways for Healing”  exhibit, which will run from Monday, July 19, through Friday, Aug. 20, at the Heyde Center for the Arts in Chippewa Falls.

An artists’ reception is slated for 5-7pm on Thursday, July 29.

At the core of all my work is love.
I draw my inspiration completely from within.

O’Brien, of Erin Designs, creates Yoga Energy Arts using mediums such as silk painting, fiber art, watercolor, pen, ink, and sculpture. Her work in this exhibit explores the five elements: earth, fire, metal, water, and wood.

“All of us have the ability to be creative,” she said. “Until we actually try, we then discover healing via creating.”

Tanya Meyer of Divine Light Studio plans to exhibit 12 abstract acrylic paintings using the Intentional Creativity process. “At the core of all my work is love,” Meyer said. “I draw my inspiration completely from within.”

Carew Johnson’s work utilizes abstract acrylics, including a variety of tools such as cooking utensils or towels, as well as different processes, such as glazing or sanders. She creates layer upon layer and marks from nothing, then adds and subtracts the layers and marks, which she says acts as a stress relief.

“I draw my inspiration from nature, painting is a kind of meditation for me,” Carew Johnson said.
