If you’re looking to scratch that want-something-sweet, gotta-support local itch, Sugar Mamas Cakes & Cookies is baking up just what you need.
Moms and gal pals Lindsay Draz and Kristin Emery have enjoyed baking from a young age. They both reinvigorated their passion for sweet treats in the past year. Over the winter, they decided to join forces and created the Sugar Mamas Cakes & Cookies brand.

“We are hobby bakers taking our love to the next level,” Draz says. Emery says it’s fun to have a hobby that is their own. They consider themselves weekend bakers and want just enough orders to keep them busy. So how did they get such knock-it-out-of-the-park decorating skills? Emery says they are self-taught – learning through trial and error, tutorials, and each other. They also love the challenge of trying new designs through fulfilling custom orders.
According to Draz, the duo’s side hustle gives them an excuse to bake for people other than their families. “Our husbands need a break, I guess, sometimes,” she says with a laugh.
Emery’s favorite treats to make are tiered cakes, while Draz’s favorite task is to pipe cupcakes. But they are both realizing that there is so much that you can do with decorating cookies. “In a way, it’s therapeutic when we’re alone and in our groove,” Draz says. They typically take care of small orders separately and then collaborate on the larger orders, splitting them up to make them more manageable. They then enjoy packaging orders together and getting them ready for customers. In March, Sugar Mamas held their first pop-up event with St. Patrick’s Day-themed cookies and cupcakes.
They hope to have more pop-up events in the future, so follow them on Facebook at Sugar Mamas Cakes & Cookies or on Instagram @sugarmamascakesec.
