UWEC to host series of events in April to explore Hmong culture

April is set aside to celebrate Hmong heritage, and UW-Eau Claire has a series of events planned throughout the month to recognize Hmong culture. Here’s a sample:
HMONG HERITAGE MONTH KICKOFF

UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh kick off Hmong Heritage Month with a series of presentations at noon on Friday, April 2, including presentations from Dr. Kong Pheng Pha (assistant professor of critical Hmong studies and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at UW-Eau Claire) and Dr. Mai See Thao (assistant professor of anthropology at UW-Oshkosh). This kickoff will include breakout sessions between UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh students who express interest in critical Hmong studies.
CULTURE CORE CONFERENCE

The 30th annual Culture Core conference aims to foster conversations about issues of diverse cultural, social, and epistemological traditions, seeking to empower Hmoob students by advocating for conversations of identity, social issues, and culture. The theme of this year’s conference is “Intersectionality: Fragments of my Identity.”

HMONGER GAMES

The annual Hmonger Games – a relay race of Hmong physical activities – is set to take place on May 1 on the Campus Mall at UW-Eau Claire. Register in teams of four by April 17 at tinyurl.com/utwysys.
