Matt Vold’s New Video for ‘I’m Bad’ is Good

There’s no shortage of bummer songs on Eau Claire songwriter Matt Vold’s 2020 album with his band, the Shorewood Mountaineers (Ben Lester, Jeremy Boettcher, Matthew Mabis, Matt Haapala, and Jack Gribble). One of the more straightforward and blatant expressions of that bummer come in the form of “I’m Bad” – the penultimate, slow-burning country tune on the self-titled album. Well, that song now has a markedly more lighthearted visual to go along with it, courtesy of filmmakers Ben Kreibich and Mack Hastings. In the video, our protagonist cheerfully steals, cheats, and swindles their way through a night on the town. It’s well worth a watch, and a surprisingly fitting visual for Vold’s stellar, low-down, and starkly depressing turns of phrase.
