Tissue Plant, Public School Foundation Receive City Green Awards

Eau Claire committee honors sustainable projects

Tom Giffey |

For the fifth consecutive year, the City of Eau Claire’s Sustainability Advisory Committee has honored businesses, individuals, and groups for being good stewards of our one and only planet. Topping the Sustainable Eau Claire Awards list for 2020 are Cascades Tissue Group and the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation, both in the category of Energy: Renewables, Efficiency, or Conservation. Cascades, which operates a paper plant in Eau Claire, was also recently honored by the statewide Focus on Energy program for its commitment to improving energy efficiency, while this year the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation oversaw the grant- and donation-funded installation of solar panels on North and Memorial high schools. Other winners of this year’s Sustainable Eau Claire Awards (and the categories they were honored in) include SHIFT Cyclery & Coffee Bar (Transportation Innovations); Tom Wagener (Sustainable City Staff); Memorial High School Eco-Warriors and Lauren Becker (Student Leadership Award); and Crispin Pierce, Jim Boulter, and Karen Mumford (Environmental Education). The awards were given out virtually on Nov. 18, and winners received plaques made out of wood from city trees by Eco Urban Timber.
