Poverty in the Chippewa Valley: A Look at ALICE Stats

Share of Eau Claire County households living under the federal poverty level as of 2018, according to a report recently released by the United Way. The state average is 11%.

Share of Eau Claire County households in poverty or under the ALICE threshold: “ALICE” is an acronym for “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.” Households in the ALICE range earn more than the poverty rate but less than the local cost of living.

Decline in the percentage of county households in poverty or under the ALICE threshold between 2016 and 2018. However, a estimated 14,005 of the county’s 40,421 households remain in one of those groups.
