11” x 14,” by Kathy SteinkeKathy Steinke and husband Dennis reside in Eau Claire. Kathy’s dad, uncles, and grandfather were bricklayers; therefore, she claims her love of playing with mud is simply part of her DNA.
“ ‘Stillness’ the interaction of beauty and the silent mystery of blooming flowers. My art begins with a 12 x 24-inch piece of drywall board. From there, joint compound, easy sand 90, paper, fabric, wires, and recycled styrofoam are manipulated to create depth, texture, and drama. I am a self-taught tactile, hands-on medium lover, which means reference journals do not exist in my world. My brain completes a finished picture. Then I mentally peel back the layers until I establish a starting base point and begin. A defining moment in someone’s life motivates my heart to make that.” –The Artist
