Calling all bards, poets, readers and lovers of poetry! The 14th Annual International Poetry Reading at UW-Eau Claire is seeking readers. The event will be 7-9pm Tuesday, April 21, in the Dakota Ballroom of the Davies Center. Those who can speak and read in a language other than modern standard English are invited to read a poem of their choice at the event. Last year’s event included poems in 25 languages. “This event is a joint effort to engage Blugolds and the Eau Claire community in celebrating the beauty of languages,” said Kaishan Kong, UWEC assistant professor of Chinese and co-organizer of the reading along with Josh Bauer, a senior web developer at UWEC, and Dorothy Ka-Ying Chan, assistant professor of English. If you are interested in reading, email internationalpoetryreading@gmail.com by March 20 with “Poetry Reading” in the subject line followed by the language in which you plan to read. This email will save you a spot on the readers list, and if someone has already chosen that language, you will be informed in a reply email. By midnight on March 29, send electronic copies of your chosen short poem (40 lines maximum, but shorter is preferred) written in your language and also translated into English in a Microsoft Word file.
