Weld Unopposed for New Presidential Term
V1 Staff |
Terry Weld will run unopposed for re-election to a three-year term as Eau Claire City Council president. Weld, who was elected to the position last April, was the only candidate to file the necessary paperwork to get his name on the April 7 ballot.
Weld, a former City Council member, defeated Andrew Werthmann, then the acting City Council president, last spring to serve the final year of Kerry Kincaid’s presidential term. Werthmann announced in December he wouldn’t pursue a rematch with Weld.
In other election news:
- One other city race will also be on the Eau Claire ballot this spring: Political newcomers Dale Poynter and Mai Xiong are seeking the at-large City Council seat vacated when Laura Benjamin resigned in November.
- Mayors Brendan Pratt of Altoona and Randy Knaack of Menomonie both will run unopposed for re-election this spring.
- The Eau Claire County Board will be up for election, with contested races for 12 of the 29 seats.
- Wisconsin voters will also choose a state Supreme Court justice this spring. Incumbent Justice Daniel Kelly will face challengers Ed Fallone and Jill Karofsky in a Feb. 18 primary. The top two vote-getters will face off in the general election April 7.
