June 4 is the kick-off day for Chippewa Valley Bike Week festivities. Get a head-start on the day with free coffee from Soul Brewed Coffee, waffles from SHIFT Cyclery & Coffee Bar, and fruit and pastries donated by the Friends of the Chippewa River State Trail in the Volume One parking lot at the corner of North Dewey and Galloway streets in downtown Eau Claire. Local bike advocacy groups – including Bike Chippewa Valley, the Chippewa Valley Transit Alliance, Friends of the Chippewa River State Trail, and the City of Eau Claire Bicycle/Pedestrian Committee – will be on site as well. Basic bike safety checks will be available, as well as a program of Bike Week events. The state Department of Natural Resources will offer free access to state trails, parks, and forests on June 1-2 as part of the week’s events. SHIFT and the Chippewa Off Road Bike Association (CORBA) will offer open social rides on June 3, while on June 5 the Chippewa Valley Bike Route System will host an open house at the Volume One Gallery from 4:30-6:30pm. Bike to baseball from there at 5:30pm to catch an Eau Claire Express game. Those who bike to the Sounds Like Summer concert in Phoenix Park on Thursday, June 6, will receive free bike valet service and a special offer for the Volume One tent. And don’t forget about the kids: On Saturday, June 8, take a kid mountain biking with CORBA 10am-2pm at the Eau Claire County Expo Center pavilion. Finally, on Sunday, join Eau Claire Youth Cycling for a “try it out” open house at Lowes Creek County Park. Girls only from 2-3pm, and any rider from 3-5pm. Don’t forget to bring your helmet!
