Inspiring Alumni Art
Pablo Center exhibit features work by UWEC grads
Wandering through the UW-Eau Claire Department of Art and Design Alumni Exhibition in the Hanson Gallery of the Pablo Center at the Confluence, you’ll see a variety of installations created by UWEC alumni.
“Every exhibit has its challenges for curation and the eventual installation,” said the curator of the exhibition, Rose Dolan-Neill, who is visual and literary arts manager for the Pablo Center. “This exhibit has multiple mediums and styles, works that have been shipped from across the country.”
More than 20 artists have works showcased in the gallery. Each of them graduated from the Art and Design program at UWEC, though some decades apart. An open call was sent out to the artists, in hopes of gathering submissions from a diverse group.
“We sought to create a balance in materials, media, and process, culminating in a collection of generations and styles united through creative journeys and developing careers,” the Art and Design Department stated on the event’s website.
Over the years, graduates of UWEC’s art programs have scattered across the country and globe, while some have remained in the area. Many alumni have stayed involved and follow Eau Claire’s art scene with great interest.
“They’re proud of their alma mater and the success of the community it supports,” Dolan-Neill said. Everyone involved with the creation of this exhibit hopes to inspire current UWEC students, alumni, and Eau Claire’s community as a whole.
If the some of the pieces pique your interest, there is a “Meet the Artists” reception from 5-7pm on Friday, March 15, to close out the six-week exhibit. A handful of artists will be there to discuss their works, inspiration, and backgrounds. The Pablo Center’s galleries are free and open to the public 10am-4pm Monday-Friday as well as two hours prior to events. Some upcoming exhibits include Fabulous Florals & Fine Art and Footprints/Memories: Eco Art and the Global Canvas.
