New Year, New Reading List
The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library is making sure patrons don’t get stuck in a reading rut this year. The library is running a yearlong Diversity Challenge to encourage adult readers to broaden their horizons. This month’s challenge is to read a “New-to-You Book by a Favorite Author.” Themes for later in the year include reading books by an author with different life experiences than your own and translated works. Readers are encouraged to mix up the themes if they aren’t feeling the vibe for the current month. Eau Claire’s Diversity Challenge was inspired by the Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge. Each month’s challenge comes with a list of suggestions to guide readers. Librarian Anna Zook compiled the list for December, which is a book of poetry, a play, or an essay collection. To sign up for the Diversity Challenge, swing by the Reference desk. You’ll get a cool reading journal that was designed, printed, and bound right at the library. There are monthly prize drawings, as well as a grand prize of a Kindle Fire at the end of the year.
