Holy Donuts: Sweet Food Truck Joins Food Truck Friday
Amery native Myron Marko transformed a passion for donuts into a trailer-turned-donut shop called Holy Donuts. Marko, a lifelong donut lover, saw the joy donuts bring and took it upon himself to spread that joy all over the Midwest. At the ripe age of 16, with immense support from his community, Marko became a business owner. The food truck idea was inspired by corn-selling trailers that sometimes line the roads of Wisconsin. The donut-mobile primarily visits town festivals, but it also provides donuts for graduation parties and weddings. Its first ever event was the Amery Fall Festival this past September. More locally, the donut mobile made an appearance at the Eau Claire Marathon. Boats of seven donuts sell for five bucks at festival-style events. Customers can also rent the donut mobile for private events or order donuts in bulk. Holy Donuts has a total of 15 donut creations, but event menus only feature seven of them. Some featured donuts (such as Key Lime Pie, Raspberry Lemonade, Orange Dream, Grandma’s Apple Crisp, Midwest Maple, and The Fall Fest) vary by seasons while others (Glaze ‘n Sprinkles, Butterfinger Bomb, The Cloud, and Cinna-Yum) are Holy Donuts staples. If Marko had to choose one, he says the most popular donut on menu is the Butterfinger Bomb. “People may think it’s odd at first, but they like it after they try it,” he says. Business has been good for the donut-mobile, and Marko is thankful that his hometown and other communities have openly embraced Holy Donuts.
