Kubb is a Swedish baton-throwing lawn game that can be played by pretty much anyone, and it just so happens that the largest kubb championship outside of Europe is held right here in Eau Claire, aka the "Kubb Capital of North America" since 2011. In mid-July, kubb teams from all over the country will face each other in this two-day tournament. The weekend kicks off with a “Kid Kubb” junior championship on July 13. The official playoffs begin the 14th, where all the teams will compete in a bracket tournament. Only the final 16 teams will advance to the playoffs on the second day. The maximum number of teams in the championships is 128 and all but four of those spots were filled as of June 14. Tournaments in the past two years consisted of the maximum 128 teams, with about 455 players each year. In previous years, participants have been as young as 6 and as old as 80-plus. Two-time champions and Wisconsin natives Damage Incorporated will be competing again this year to keep their title.
