“Painted Fern” by Melissa Burke
digital photograph, 10”x15”

Melissa Burke is a gardener, artist, naturalist, and traveler.  A Wisconsin native, her artwork is often inspired by the surrounding landscape and ever-changing seasons.

"An early morning walk through the garden can be a wondrous thing.  The fleeting, soft quality of light brings out subtleties that would otherwise go unnoticed.  The lacy fronds of this Japanese painted fern appeared to glow, and begged to be photographed. If art teaches us one thing, it is to observe the world more closely.  I truly believe that to notice the small things each day is to live more fully.  My camera allows me to observe, document, and share the beauty I see." – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a message.
