Raise a Joyful Noise for CVTG's Sister Act
Embodying the roles made iconic on the big screen by Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith in 1992, the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild is staging the hilarious musical Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy for its fall season. According to CVTG’s website, “Filled with powerful gospel music and a truly moving story of friendship, Sister Act will leave audiences breathless and give you a reason to REJOICE!” From Oct. 5-8, the State Theatre will be filled with music, laughter, and – gasp! – murder. An up-and-coming disco singer, Deloris Van Cartier, gets caught in a seedy quarrel involving her devil-may-care boyfriend, his accompanying gang, and a gun causing Cartier to become an eyewitness to a homicide. Under a death threat from Cartier’s now ex-boyfriend, she is placed in protective custody with a group of nuns. It’s quite a switch from per previous life: no drinking, no dancing, no smoking, and – biggest of all – Cartier must sing gospel in their choir instead of disco at a club. Will these two contrasting lifestyles learn to give and take or will there be another murder in the mix? Get tickets at cvtg.org or by calling (715) 832-7529.
