P • PL Just Like Us

former locals’ new MPLS band spits out intricate psych-rock cassette

Freak funk has new face, and it’s strangely familiar. Back in February, five Midwestern musicians merged to form P • PL. The band is based in the Twin Cities, but some of its roots lie in the Chippewa Valley. The people of P • PL come from a masterclass of Eau Claire musicians. Dave Power of Meridene and Aero Flynn (and drummer for the Staves!) is their drummer, and Addie Strei of Adelyn Rose and Yohuna is their guitarist. Those bands were born here and helped build the backbone of our music scene. Shortly after P • PL formed, the band released an EP called Dem Ohs. That they chose a pun to name as the name of their four-demo mix says a lot about the vibe their music gives off. Playful, carefree, and never too serious, Dem Ohs is all about kicking back and having fun. Jazzy soulful sax, vintage synths, and chilled-out vocals ripple through each track, creating a lo-fi atmosphere perfect for any bedroom dance party. Want more? You got it. P • PL is releasing four new songs that will be available along with Dem Ohs on a tape titled – not surprisingly – Dem Ohs 1+2. The band is currently hard at work on a third set of four demos that will be released in the near future. In support of their new tape, P • PL is embarking on a Dem Ohs 1+2 release tour across the Midwest, making stops in major music hubs across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Catch their Eau Claire stop on Nov. 17 at the Mousetrap with Idle Empress and Two Castles.
