It’s officially autumn, and that means more than just back-to-school specials at the Farm & Fleet. That’s right; it’s time again for the Chippewa Valley Rock-n-Roll Kickball Classic! This two-day extravaganza pits up to 24 teams against each other in a fierce competition for glory and bragging rights, schoolyard style. Beyond earning the obvious street cred, teams will battle it out for cash money prizes ($250 for first place) and trophies (including one for Super Spirit and another for Consumption). There’s still time to register your co-ed kickball team (10-person minimum), but to ensure you all get your custom-color T-shirts in time for the big day you’ll need to sign up as soon as possible. The tourney was originally started by Volume One, and the destination marketing company Visit Eau Claire runs the show these days. A variety of local sponsors help put on this great community event every year. There’s absolutely no cost to attend, and the whole family (including the dog) is encouraged to show up and support your team. There’ll be a playground area to keep the kiddos occupied, as well as live music, kubb games and beanbag toss all day, a variety of delicious food vendors for everyone, and plentiful beer for the adults. The double-elimination competition and festivities begin at 5pm Friday, Oct. 7, and at 9am Saturday, Oct. 8 at Cinder City Park in Altoona. For more information, check out the Chippewa Valley Rock-n-Roll Kickball Classic Facebook page, go to visiteauclaire.com/rockandroll/ or call Debra at (715) 839-5188.
