Where All the Action Is
Action City to add trampoline park, outdoor go-karts, more
Get ready to quite literally jump for joy as Action City gets closer to opening an updated and expanded facility chock full of exciting new stuff. Originally set to be completed in September 2017, the whole operation has been pushed forward thanks to a successfully aggressive timeline working with Durand Builders, Royal Credit Union, and River Valley Architects. The new addition is set to hopefully be open for business beginning on Dec. 20 of this year, just in time for Christmas break.
Included in the various upgrades is a 20,000-square-foot trampoline park, which will be one of the largest of its kind in the Midwest. There will be a general trampoline area for all your jumping pleasure as well an air bag pit where you can practice your flips and aerials into a giant foam pit. If that isn’t enough, there will also be trampoline dodgeball courts for the more competitive jumpers.
Benny Anderson, Action City’s general manager, explained that they first came up with the idea of adding a trampoline park during owners Tom and Shirley Hahn’s winter in Arizona, where they stumbled across a similar park there. Since then, they’ve been researching the idea and working to make it a reality for Action City here in the Chippewa Valley.
Additionally, there will also be two new Ninja Warrior-style obstacle courses, which will be based off the popular TV series. Don’t worry, there will still be plenty to do for the little ones as well with the addition of a new soft play area.
“I’m personally most excited for the Ninja Warrior obstacles. Our staff here has started getting ready for it, and we have to able to partake in all the activities we offer, so there’s already been competitive smack talk going down,” Anderson said with a laugh.
In addition to all the new attractions, there will also be overhauls to many of the existing attractions, including upgrades to laser tag, mini bowling, the outdoor go-kart track, and the addition of a two-person zip line.
Anderson explains that the 700-foot-long and 120-foot-high zip line is comparable to a fast-speed ski lift. It’s very safe, but also a lot of fun for a thrill ride.
The facility hasn’t undergone an upgrade in the last 10 years, according to Anderson, so it will be great to see a place that’s been loved by the community add all these cool new options to keep up with the times, he said.
“Back when it first opened, there wasn’t a whole lot to do, so it was a big deal to have a place like this to bring both your kids and grandkids,” Anderson said. “We’re happy to still be offering that option to families, and it’s fun for them to show their out-of-town family members the fun that can be had here as well.”
While Action City is adding a whole swath of new fun, the upgrades won’t have much of an impact on current prices. Anderson explained that separate passes – ranging from one hour of jump time to unlimited day passes – will be sold for the trampoline park. Otherwise, the most that prices for other attractions will go up is a dollar or so.
