For the second year in a row, the Wisconsin Library Association has honored Chippewa Valley-based writer Nickolas Butler for his literary work. His short-story collection, Beneath the Bonfire, was one of 10 books by Wisconsin authors published in 2015 to be honored recently for Outstanding Achievement by the WLA. Last year, Butler’s debut novel, Shotgun Lovesongs, won the WLA’s Literary Award as the top book by a Wisconsin author. This year, the Literary Award went to UW-Madison alum Lynsey Addario for It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War. Several other authors with local ties were included in the WLA’s recently announced slate of awards: The Outstanding Achievement list also included The Crops Look Good by Sara DeLuca, a chronicle of a farm family in Polk County, while Wil Denson of Eau Claire was cited as one of three Notable Wisconsin Authors.
