The World's Flautists Unite
annual convention brings flute pioneers together in song
The fluttery notes of flutes from around the world will waft over Eau Claire on July 27-31 when UW-Eau Claire hosts the 2016 World Flute Society Convention. The afternoons and evenings of these days will fill the Haas Fine Arts Center with performances by celebrated flautists; three different groups will be featured during each concert segment. The music explores various cultures and traditions, including Celtic, Native American, Chinese, World fusion, Classical flute, Indian, Middle Eastern, Meditational, Japanese, Aztec, and Mayan. These general seating shows are open to the public and all ages, and tickets will be sold at the door. The lobby will hold numerous vendors who will be selling flutes from various cultures, CDs, and other musical accessory items throughout the day and evening. Attendees have the opportunity to register for daily conventions that include classes and workshops that instruct on a variety of topics, including wooden flute making; on-site and pre-registrations are available. Visitors can enjoy the delicious food offered at the event and stroll along the scenic campus and downtown area. One instrument. Several cultures. Right in our backyard. Come listen and learn!
