Over a decade ago, local New York Times-bestselling author Michael Perry wrote an unforgettable memoir of life and tragedy in a small Wisconsin town, and now, for the first time, it’s being adapted for the stage. Population: 485 promises to be an all-around local labor of love under the direction of Jake Lindgren and with original music by Sean Carey (of Bon Iver and S. Carey). The show will be produced at Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua near Bayfield on Aug. 28 at 7:30pm, and tickets are already on sale. It’s not too late to meld your love of Wisconsin culture and theater by becoming part of the show. A casting call is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22, at 7pm at the Grand Theatre, 102 W. Grand Ave., Eau Claire. Just bring a contemporary monologue of either the dramatic or comedic variety that’s two minutes long or less. If you’re unable to attend the auditions or want more information, contact Lindgren at bigtalljake@gmail.com. And for tickets, go to www.bigtop.org/event/michael-perry-08282016.
