He Learned to Balance Fruit on His Head
by
Paula Gorski | acrylic, 14” x 18”

Paula Gorski calls Eau Claire her home. She moved here from Milwaukee, attended UWEC, and earned a B.F.A. in painting and an ELED/SPED certification. She lived in Bolivia for ten years where she painted, traveled, and taught first grade.

"I struggled with drawing in the traditional sense but was allowed the freedom to merge drawing with mixed media. Wonder Bread was cheap so I made a series of autobiographical laminated bread portrait pieces, loosely classified as drawings.  I experimented with an old Milwaukee Journal picture of my dad and I at a thanksgiving event. The caption read, Slight Fright Didn’t Lessen this Girl’s Curiosity, which I drew on and displayed in a test tube. To this day, my work is narrative and personal. If I wrap a bicycle tire, or work on a series of paintings, it comes down to a story.” – The Artist

Volume One finds its cover art in a number of ways, from local art shows to random emails to knowing someone who knows someone who knows a great artist. The art always originates from a current or former Chippewa Valley resident. If you'd like to submit cover art, send us a letter.
