If you drive down Farwell Street at night, you’re likely to see some Tiffany lamps brightening up the evening through the windows of Galaudet Gallery at 618 S. Farwell St. Gallery owners Vicki and Mike will be opening their Tiffany Lamp Exhibit: Beauty in Glass on Saturday, Dec. 12 with “Light Up Your Life,” a series of three Tiffany Lamp talks from 1-2pm, 3-4pm, and 6-7pm. The exhibit and talks are free of charge. Reproductions of famous Tiffany lamps, such as those with lilies or dragonflies, will be available for sale. Louis Comfort Tiffany, an American artist and designer, is best known for his stained glass work. The first Tiffany lamp was made in 1885. Each lamp was handmade and not mass-produced. The stained glass lamps became popularized after they were exhibited at the World’s Columbian Exhibition in Chicago in 1893. Recent research completed in 2007 indicates that some of the more popular Tiffany lamp designs were actually done by a previously unrecognized artist named Clara Driscoll. You can learn more at the talks at Galaudet Gallery on Saturday, Dec. 12.
