Two Chippewa Valley powerlifters are hefting some new hardware after the recent International Powerlifting Federation Championships in Prague, Czech Republic. UW-Eau Claire student Mariah Hamm earned a gold medal in her weight class (84 kilograms) in the junior division, hoisting a combined total of 557.7 kg (1,230 pounds) in the three events: squat, bench press, and dead lift. Meanwhile, Eau Claire’s Sam Kroll took a bronze medal in the 63 kg sub-junior championships, with a combined total of 415 kg. That’s 915 pounds – and she’s just a 5-foot-tall high school senior.
